Open My Computer, then right-click on the drive. Select "Create Shortcut"
in the pop-up[ ,menu. A message will appear to the effect that one can't be
created here; would you like one on the Desktop ? Click on Yes. Should now
have a shortcut.

My CD drive tray is sensitive enough that a very light push on it makes it
close on its own. Closing by either doing it with a gentle shove or by
using Eject in the shortcut's pop-up menu will probably have the same
wear-and-tear. Others may know differently...
