Browser Adverts????????

Please can someone tell me where i can switch off the adverts/pop ups that
keep popping up from IE, i don't mean the pop-ups from actual web pages, i
mean the ones where you can just be sitting on your home page and they pop
up there and fill the dam screen, thanks in advance:-)
