Hi.
My son's 'puter is having startup problems, and I don't know how to help
him.
He has a Dell 8200 Pentium 4 and is running Windows XP Home. He does not
have Service Pack 2 installed yet.
Here's what's happening:
After the Windows XP screen, he gets a blue screen saying:
"Checking file system on C: The type of file system is NTFS.
One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency.
You may cancel the disk check but it is strongly recommended that you
continue.
To skip disk checking press any key."
(Here, a 10 second clock ticks down. Pressing any key does nothing.)
After the 10 seconds:
"Chkdsk is verifying files. step 1 of 3."
The bar gets to 54% done, the 'puter shuts down and starts all over again.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Jack
