XP PRO Activation Error

I have fully formatted my HD to NTFS installed XP PRO and Regestered the
COA. Upon reboot the activation comes up and when I click to activate I get
a message that reads "Windows has already been activated". I have added
more but it was prior to placing the XPPRO disk in the CDROM drive and
formationg the HD.
In calling MS thay gave me the 42 digit activation number and said just
enter it the next time it happens. WHAT I thought.. can't! Will using the
safe mode and "regsvr32.exe regwizc.dll" ENTER "regsvr32.exe licdll.dll"
ENTER
 reboot cure this or will I then get the screen to enter my activation code?
Can anyone help with the issue?
I am in the USA cantral time zone
