I'm having the same problems exactly and all "show pictures" settings are
OK, both here and at my ISP webmail end.
It's become so annoying that I've used the SP2 email help center...no answer
so far.
Right clicking on images does not give the "show image" option. I have no
software settings that would block images either.
I suspect, but am not sure, that it was an office update that came in,
which, naturally, is not removable. Not sure I even needed an office update
but MS said I did, despite only having the Powerpoint Viewer installed.
I tried a repair install which of course wiped out my sys. restore option
