Hi,

Try Safe boot mode, and then see if you can access a winnt32.exe file in the
I386 folder. Running that should start the installation process, but give
you a chance to choose an in-place upgrade. Otherwise, I would check with
IBM to see if there is any procedure available to do this without
formatting.
