Please help get rid of virus

Good Morning, I have recently installed the windows xp on
my home computer. I also have a DSL. Well I have been
having problems with a virus, a worm? I have downloaded
and installed the new service pack, and tried to go on the
internet and it worked, then the next time it didn't. I
have Norton Antivirus 2005 on the computer, now I cannot
get back on the internet. I still have pop-ups, and each
time I log on I have a window that says c:/windows opens
explorer. Also, I re-ran the antivirus and found 37 new
adware properties and deleted them. PLEASE HELP so I can
get my computer running again. PS I did reboot in safe
mode with the system restore diabled and scanned with no
