After SP2 PC locks up during boot ??

As the subject line says, as soon as you get the scrolling blue dots they
don't even make across once, it just stops about 2 thirds of the way across
on the first pass and thats it. Safe mode does exactly the same except as it
loads as soon as you get the scrolling driver list it stops as soon as
agp440.sys appears. OK so I should have done a backup first, anyway it was
long over due for a reinstall so I do a fresh install on another disk just
so I can see the contents of my old C drive and remove what I need, I then
format the first partion on my original disk and reinstall that, copy
accross what I need and before I install anything else (apart from Norton
Ghost) I do an image of the disk and try SP2 again and guess what, exactly
the bloody same, OK so I can now put thngs back the way they were but whats
up with SP2, is anyone else suffering the same problem and if so have you
fixed it and how.
