Multiple user issue

I am running XP Pro and just updated to SP2 on an HP pavilion a410n with an
add-on ATI 9200 video card. 512 megs of Ram, plejnty of resources. When I
logon and use the switch user option, and another user logs on, the monitor
goes into standby mode. Nothing except a hard boot will reset it, since
there is no way to navigate the screen to log out. As long as there is only
one user logged into the machine, everything works OK, but as soon as we
have more than one user, it blanks out and the monitor light blinks. I
thought it might have soomething to do with the user ID, so I deleted it and
then added the user back in.

Any ideas on what is happening and/or how to fix it, short of a reinstall of
Windows?
