SP2 - My Nightmare: Nothing will d/l right, other things not worki

OK, so I spent 2 days d/l SP2 via Windows Update; I install it...I have a few
exceptions in the firewall. I'm on dial-up, 90% sys resource free, amd
athlon, Mcafee, Spybot both run with sys restore off, sys defrag done before
SP2.

So, then I try to get an ad-aware update - it fails, so I check and find
there's a new version. So uninstall ad-aware6. Now I want to d/l the new
version of ad-awareSE. I can't - d/l "hangs" anywhere from 6 to 40%, then
says done when it isn't.

Use AOL, they have a Computer Checkup - that d/l a small active x
(qdiagcc.cab file) - I can't use it - I get a Security Warning: "Windows has
blocked this software because it can't verify the publisher", even after
turning firewall off. Tried getting the new version of spywareblaster as I
suddenly have Gator showing up, gets removed, comes right back. Can't d/l
spywareblaster - comes up saying "corrupted".

My internet is running slower than slow now, pages are taking forever to
load or won't completely load (yes I have all the IE fixes already - isn't
the SP2 IE fixes redundant?).

What will happen if I uninstall this horrid SP2? I have ordered the
CD...I'm thinking maybe somehow the d/l from Windows Update went wrong
somewhere - it did take 2 very very long sessions (10+ hours each) to get the
darn thing d/l; now I find out about the CD.

I HATE this "update". I feel that it's made my computer super touchy, I've
changed/lowered my internet tools security settings hoping that would allow
me to d/l what I want and need re: ad-aware for backup to Spybot S&D,
spywareblaster to help stop the adware, etc. from hitting in the first place.

I am NOT a techie, I just write everything down as it happens. HELP Please!
