The old disk should show up as D: (or some further letter if you partioned
the new one into more than one) and you should be able to access the files
without any special actions.

If it's not showing up, check that it's found by your BIOS at bootup (did
you reconfigure the jumpers, if needed?)

Before installing XP with NTFS, I installed a new hard disk as master and
moved my old disk containing WIN98SE to slave.
