The Ctrl-Alt-Del screen is there because it set up for a domain login.
You need to right click My Computer and select Properties, select the
Computer Name tab, click Change, and select Workgroup, type in some
workgroup name such as: 'workgroup' :). Ok all screens and reboot.
To go directly to the desktop you will have to remove all user accounts
except for the one you are using. Make sure the account you are using has
Administrator rights. Open Control Panel, User Accounts, click the account
you are using, then click Change my account type. See if Computer
Administrator is checked.
Now that is verified:
Open Control Panel, User Accounts. There is a Guest account and possibly a
ASP.NET account. Leaves these alone. One at a time select the other accounts
that you will not be using and select Delete the account. You'll be prompted
about deleting it.
After you all the unused accounts deleted, make sure the account you are
using does not have a password. This is the only way for Windows XP to boot
straight to the desktop. One account, no password, and part of a workgroup.
