weird problem made weirder as Stinger.exe is a valid virus removal tool!

http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/
Stinger is a stand-alone utility used to detect and remove specific viruses.
It is not a substitute for full anti-virus protection, but rather a tool to
assist administrators and users when dealing with an infected system.
Stinger utilizes next generation scan engine technology, including process
scanning, digitally signed DAT files, and scan performance optimizations.

How do I use Stinger?

  1.. Download Stinger.exe v2.3.9 [819,200 bytes] (8/16/2004)
a.. or Download ePOStg238.Zip EPO deployable version (for EPO
administrators). Instructions for EPO 2.5X and EPO 3.X are available.

This version of Stinger includes detection for all known variants, as of

You were wise to be cautious though as any file can be renamed.

I would check your proxy settings for internet explorer as well as your
hosts file.

do a search for a file called hosts no extension you can open it with
notepad it should essentially be blank with just instructions on how it
works and an example

for the proxy settings look under tools internet options connections

clear all your temp files and cookies

also try just using an IP address and see if it works

Run the Antivirus software in safe mode and make sure you have the latest
definitions also download adaware or have someone put it on a cd for you
