This is correct, Windows Security Center, is designed to monitor, Windows
Update, Antivirus and Firewall, see

As for what can and cannot be monitored, I would guess that it is only
software to a) conforms to the updated SP2 security standards and b) were
willing to participate, that can be monitored.
For example Norton 2003 can not be monitored, while norton 2004 can.
As for a Microsoft AntiVirus package, as far as I know there are no firm
dates or confirmations on when/if MS will release a AntiVirus product. They
are still listing software that they recommend

And recently gave a free years subscription to EZ Armor Lite to all users
that requested the free security update CD
