Try using File Scavenger. It's $40 and can drag files back up to the
surface after an accidental wipe/format/defrag-wipe/mbr missing, this
is if you are only looking to do file recovery. It can recover a
partition only if the partition is NOT a boot partition.
If the files are on the boot partition, get ready to put the drive
into another system, making sure that the drive is set to slave and
pull the files from the other OS.
For a 60 gig drive it took me 3 hours to rebuild a file and print
server. Not the OS mind you, just pull the data up off a drive.
(Client's backup wasn't very -erm- regular because a 8 gig tape drive
doesn't backup 45 gigs) :\
