I beg to differ with Andrew, however on the Gigabyte based systems that I have used, also with a single SATA drive it was necessary for a driver file.
In those that I have configured, one required to setup the SATA / RAID in BIOS, in this case choosing BASE configuration [not using any RAID functionality]. Also there are two RAID controller options, one for using true RAID functions and another where BASE is used.
I created a floppy driver disk for the specicif function that was setup in BIOS.
No problems with XP installation or reboot.
Check the manual to see if indeed you have given the correct driver for Windows at the F6 prompt.
