Exactly the same problem for me. (XP Pro.)

I built a new system several weeks ago, did a repair/reinstall, so it should
be nice and uncorrupted.
It often happens also when I click on Win Explorer (in Quicklaunch) - the
whole Taskbar also completely disappears for those couple of seconds - ie, a
completely empty screen apart from my normal wallpaper.

Also running Adaware, Spybot, CoolWebShredder, a good AV & running through a
firewalled router.
