I use hyperterminal to communicate via console to various network devices. I have noticed that the XP version Hyperterm is not working the same as the Win2000 version of Hyperterm.

Example: In the old version, I use the up arrow to scroll back to previously used commands. When I do this with the XP version, it appears that a carriage return is get added and the device repeats the command. This functionality is needed because it is very useful!

Example: I have older Nortel Baystack switches that bring up a menu, then you tab to the field that you would like to modify. When you type a character, Hyperterm appears to be adding a carriage return. The old version on my Win2000 PC works just fine.

I have tried to manipulate all the options, such as line feed and local echo, but nothing seems to fix the problem. If I do not find a fix, I may have to find another terminal application. Please help.
