If you were to buy a retail packaged Maxtor drive, then it is supplied with a Hard drive utility CD. This includes all the software to format, partition and also to 'copy' an existing System drive [C-Drive] such that when the proceedure is complete, you disconnect the old drive and configure the new drive in its place.
Failing that you can buy Drive Image or Ghost: a 2 step process is required to create an image file of your existing C Drive and then restor that image to the new drive and place it as the C Drive.
