Thanks to all answered to my post .

I have just read above , but before applying i will learn more about
it ..

Here is what i did so far -unsuccesfully -

run remove programs from xp .. . manually gone to directory and
deleted all files and directories ... which left following 7
files ( in date order as they appear in my pc.)

dlimport.exe 288KB 8/2002
npdsplay.dll 356KB ,,
setup_vm.exe 216KB ,,
wmpvis.dll 508KB ,,

npdrmv2.dll 213KB 11/2002
npwmsdrm.dll 10KB ,,
 
mplayer2.exe 5KB 6/2004 * (date of attempt to delete)

First 4 files came with the original xp cd. Next 2 must be updates
or whatever. Last one assigns itself a new date each time you
attempt to delete it. None of the above is deletable.

I have 2 partitions in my pc - win98/fat32 and xphome/ntfs

Any file utility program running via partition one will not reach the
other partition. So thats out .. Running command prompt and dos
programs within xp dont work either..

As i had no problem with wmp8 ( even though it is a perfect spyware )
logical approach would be restore to a date earlier than update to
wmp 9. I wish i knew or made a record of it .. However will try it .
That will bring further unnecessary work as i will need to install all
the other settings since that date. It is possible microsoft might
have buggered that up too, as it was updating to wmp 9 !!!!

But still believe there has to be a way via registry or similar as
above link in zdnet... will pursue this ..

My point is that i bought my xp with wmp 8 .. Microsoft forced me to
change it to a an inferior version. Maybe due to the courtcase....

Now i cant enjoy the facilities i had with wmp8 . I believe i have a
case against microsoft as an ordinary consumer .. I am not an expert
at all on computers or programs to fiddle my way through all this
hassle. Although i am a user of pcs since the days of DOS 3, and
easywriter, or supercalc & lotus and NC/NDD . Life was less
complicated then..

Now i have to buy a new microsoft product as the older ones are
buggered up by endless updates, and so called security patches which
seems to get more and more as a new product launch becomes nearer..
