I'm not sure if you have to do this, but have you ran the "New connection
wizard". This may depend on whether you use a cable/ADSL connection or
dialup for your connection to the internet.
I assume you are pinging a www.google.com address and not the IP address of
the webpage, which is 216.239.59.99. If you put the IP address in the
address bar on IE then you should get google, that should determine if it is
a DomainNameServer error.
