I was a victim of the smarmy little ***'s Sasser
variant
On advice from Hewlett-Packard tech support, I
reinstalled XP from CD into folder Windows1 and then
copied contents of folder Windows to Windows1. This copy
stage was not completely successful as several files
wouldn't be overwritten.
Every time the PC now starts, Windows File Protection
mithers me about "Files that are required for Windows to
run properly have been replaced by unrecogised versions"
and asks for WXP Service Pack 1 CD to be made available.
When I do this and click Retry nothing useful happens,
the choices given are not relevant

On the reinstall I had to create an Administrator account
and password which appears in Explorer as
Administrator.HOMEPC-LVEKP9OJ, where it got the LV etc
I've no idea. This has now become the Administrator
account and appears on the logon screen as Administrator
with no HomePC etc trailing it. I get access by using the
NEW password created on reinstall.

The problem is, the original Administrator account,
appearing in Explorer as simply `Administrator' will not
let me in, I can't access it through Explorer, the name
`Administrator' on the account logon screen is obviously
referring to the NEW one

I've tried on the Account logon to add the `HOMEPC' etc
after Administrator but it won't recognise either the old
or new passwords; I appear to be stuffed

I have loads of required files in the OLD Administrator
folders; I know they are are still there by the C: volume
used

Any advice on getting back the contents of the OLD
Administrator would be much appreciated

My plan is to copy all required files to external media
and then re-reinstall Window to Windows folder. At the
moment it's like working with someone else's PC,
everthing needs reinstalling or resetting, permissions
are all to hell, program calls won't work etc

I hope they don't lock up the smarmy ***; just put
him for 5 mins in a room with 3 or 4 others who've
suffered `cos of the little nurd

As for HP, I ahve had no replies to my please for help;
I'd get more sense from the factory cat

Regards

Phil
