Andrew,
Thank you for your reply. I have not yet received the hard drive from
Western Digital, but I thought that I would prepare my system by
incorporating some of your suggestions.
First I removed my old drive. Then I rearranged my IDE cables according to
your suggestions. Now for some reason I can not get the system to boot at
all. If I use my Data Lifeguard tools floppy, it tells me that the 80Gb
hard drive is ok. When I try to boot I get a message saying "Unknown Flash
Type" and then "Boot from ATARI CD-ROM" and finally "DISK BOOT FAILURE,
INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER". If I put Windows XP in the DVD ROM
drive, Windows says that it can not see the hard drive.
It also seems very slow to detect the hard drive in the BIOS.
I have even taken the DVD drives off the bus so that the only thing hooked
up is the hard drive, with no luck. The hard drive is strapped as master
and on the end of the IDE cable.
Help.
