I'm using both McAfee Personal Firewall Plus and Zone Alarm Pro, but neither
appears to have a log of outbound events. So I just tried setting all
currently trusted programs to ask permission before accessing the internet
and then watched what tried to get out. Unfortunately the problem did not
occur on this occasion! (And the only things that tried to access the
internet looked pretty safe: McAfee programmes, Generic Host Process for
Win32 services and Messenger.)
Perhaps it only happens once a day? I have ADSL so I usually only connect to
the internet once a day and then remain connected. (It did occur the first
time I connected to the internet today - locked for about 10 minutes.)
Before I shutdown tonight I will reset all apps to request permission to
access the internet and then see what happens tomorrow.
Thanks for the advice.
