Does it also take that long if you boot XP to Safe Mode?
I guess it must be alot of spyware and/or virus in your computer.

found that when doing a power-on boot, my computer is taking a really
LOOOOONG time to finish its boot cycle. By really long I mean 5 minutes and
some seconds by the clock every single time. After about 1 min 45 seconds
the desktop screen, (With icons and wallpaper) is displayed, but it takes
another almost 4 minutes before the Windows sound is heard.

a normal really slow windows boot, but I am now thinking that during the
boot, windows is looking for some file that is not there and is going thru a
cycle where it just has to time out before continuing. Problem is I can't
find what it is looking for. Or even if I am right or wrong.
