Boot in safe mode (pressing F8 repeatedly while windows is booting),
you might have to type 'administrator' and use the password employed
while installing XP. When you log in go to Control Panel > User
accounts and click 'Change the way in which users log on' in the next
window check 'enable welcome screen.'

Go to Start > Run and type 'control userpasswords2'
(without the quotes), select the account you want to change, click
properties, in the second tab that appears (belonging to groups) click
others, and select 'administrators.' Click OK.

If you're interested you can download tweakUI, which is part of
Windows XP Power toys, it has a heading to control which users are
shown in the welcome screen (Logon), it could be useful.
