alrighty, a friend of mine recently bought a full version of windows XP pro.

The other day he bought a computer, and it had win xp home installed onto it (it came with an OEM CD). He wanted to install his win xp pro on it, but ran into the following difficulties:

A little info:

Processor: Celeron 2.6 GHz
motherboard: intel 845GLVA Motherboard USB2.0, DDR
Ram: 768MB RAM
integrated sound card and video card
80 GB Hard drive
8x DVD rom (from his old computer, now set up as master)
52x CD Writer (new on this computer, set up as slave)

Anyways, he has been trying to install it nad he gets the following errors, and they are always different.

1). Sometimes, after the disk is formatted to NTFS, and while the computer is copying the files necessary for setup, some files don't get copied over and he is prompted. A couple of times it has been the drivers.cab file, other times it is other files. Sometimes he retries them and it works, other times he re-tries several times and it won't copy (this is all on that initial setup, before the computer restarts for the first time to that annoying screen telling you how wonderful windows XP now is).

2). If it manages to get through the initial copying of files over, sometimes during the setup screen (the one telling you about the new and improved XP) it displays an error message that the product calalog could not be loaded and that it is a fatal error. Other times, it gives driver signature errors (they haven't passed the windows xp testing), and if you click yes to install anyways, it freezes. If you click no, several more will come up and at about the 34 minute mark the computer freezes again.

This is the 2nd time this CD has ever been used, it's an original, he doesn't have access to an older version of windows, he's in the country about 2 hours away from civilization, so he needs to get this working from the CD.

Anyone else come across this?
