HELP!!! Win XP starts up normal, but everything crawls really slowly from then on.....

I'm using a laptop that come with Win ME, later i upgrade the OS to Win XP Professional.
Have been using XP for the past 8 months and everything are perfect.

Till, few days ago, Win Xp starts up normal, but everything crawls really slowly from then on.
The clicking on every icons reacts really slowly, even the Start-Up window and the Tool bar.
Don't be surprise the pc even take full 20mins to react to my clickings.
Most times, pc fail to react, or the programme I click on will load slowly and close off, don't know the closure was by itself or the pc.

So far my pc only performs Scan Disk during Start-up.
I do want to perform the System defragment, Virus Scan, Spyware Scan or even the System Restorer.
But, my pc is now very much in its own control, it don't react to my clickings much at all. Therefore, be it I wanted so much to perform all the PC clean-ups, I CAN'T!!!! ~>_<~

I doubt I can recover the Win XP system with that Recovery Disk that come with the labtop, because that should be for Win ME.
I did not create any start up disk, but, should this be any problem since the start up is fine?!
The Upgrading Win XP Professional Cd that I have, don't have any System Recovery Option in it at all.

I'm so lost what to do now. Hopefully to get some help from the expertise here.
Problem starts since I'm installed this software called Fix-It Utilities v4.0
Anyway to recover the system without deleting any files?! I really hope to keep the files, I can't imagine searching every where for what I have now.

Please please help me!
