Hi,

When I converted to NTFS, it did tell me that if I did, I wouldn't be
able to uninstall XP, which was fine, so I guess it did back it up.
Once I converted, I had a gig or so free, which I attributed to
redistribution of things, but maybe it cleared out the old os. Is
there a way to make sure that 98 is gone?

Disk management won't let me even add new partitions on my drive, or
convert to a dynamic disk. My XP Pro laptop gives me the dynamic disk
option when I right-click on disk 0, but I also don't see anything to
let me create partitions in there.
