That article was the only thing I could find using the criteria that you provided, which seems to indicate that it is the Nero CD burning prgram that is causing the conflict, not necessarily a bug in xp. If you have Nero, the suggestion is to see if they have an updated version, thus a driver that does not conflict with the xp standy-by functions.

By this, do you mean you don't have Nero CD-burning program from Ahead Software AG installed on your pc?
However, another thought occurred to me. When you say that this happens when you 'go online', do you mean this only happens when you try to connect to the internet? Or when you log on to Windows?
Take a look some settings for me,
go to
My Computer On your desk top
right click>properties>advance tab>Startup and Recovery >error reporting . Make sure error reporting is checked, also checking both boxes.
then on that same page go to "settings" and check the boxes that 'write an event to the system log" and 'send an admin. alert.
to view error log, go to
Start>control panel> administrative tools>event viewer>
from there you have three choices, you can click on each one, then look to your right, you will see a list of applications, etc. If there are any errors, it will indicate with a wqrnong sign, or the word error.
Then, you can click on each error, and it will provide further information, and/or links to the ms help and support site.

nothing there but will search all drivers and software. So what you are saying it is something running that is causing the problem not a bug in XP.
