How to turn off Windows Messenger Service.

If your reason for doing so is to eliminate pop-ups you should consider
enabling Windows XP's firewall (see help and support "ICF") or installing a
third party firewall such as the free Zone Alarm. Messenger service pop-ups
are a symptom of your computer having unprotected open ports.
