Unless the hard drive is trashed, you should be able to remove the drive from your computer and slave it to a drive in another computer. When you boot the second computer, your drive will show as another drive, with all your data intact. You can then save any of it you want. It is a somewhat tedious process, and depends on having access to another computer, but it works. If you are using NTFS, the second computer will also need to be using it. If your file system is FAT32, then any computer running WIN 95 or later can read it. Lite-on makes excellent and cheap CD burners, which can be had for under $50.00. Check pricewatch.com for a good price. You sould get one to back up your data in the future.

My Windows XP Home Edition was crashed. I tried to boot
my computer with "safe" mode but without success.
I also tried to re-install Windows by CD but was notified
that it need to reformat my hard disk before re-
installation.
I do not have back-up to my disk.
I would appreciate if anyone could give me some hints on
how to recover a few folders from the disk before
reformatting.
Many thanks.
