upgraded to XP and now SmartScan 3600 won't work

I recently upgraded my OS from Windows 98 to XP home edition. Since the upgrade my film scanner (SmartScan 3600) won't work. The error message I receive when I try to import a scan into photoshop is "unable to communicate with scanner". The scanner is turned on and connected properly. As well when I go into my device manager, it says that the scanner is working properly. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both the driver and the cyberview software that works with the scanner and I can't get it to work. I'm very frustrated because it was working properly before the XP upgrade!!! Does anyone have any advice? Thanks ~Karen
