I must say, though, that I'm impressed with what I've read about the V470. The only possible negative is this:
One reviewer said he has a laptop "with a Foxcomm Bluetooth chip in it. This mouse is only compatible with the Broadcomm/Widcomm Bluetooth chip." Does this make sense? I did a search in the manual that came with my netbook and couldn't find anything about the particular chip.

Thank you!

You would probably have better luck finding out on the Toshiba web site. What model netbook did you get?

Thank you, SC Tom! I'll look there. It's the Toshiba NB205-N310.

According to this article http://german.bluetooth.com/Bluetooth/Press/SIG/BLUETOOTH_SIG_ADOPTS_NEW_CORE_VERSION_21__EDR.htm published in 2007 that addresses your Bluetooth version,
"The Bluetooth SIG anticipates silicon vendors such as Broadcom, CSR, Infineon and Texas Instruments will have Bluetooth v2.1+ EDR chips available immediately and that the first products will follow by the end of the year."

So it looks like your netbook would probably have the Broadcom chip. This isn't a certainty by any means, but I couldn't find anything definitive on the Toshiba site.

If it were me, I'd go ahead and get the Logitech V470 that you were looking at and give it a try. If you don't like it, or it doesn't work, you can always return it if you get it from somewhere like Newegg or Amazon.

Thank you again, SC Tom! I too had checked the Toshiba site and not found anything certain. Toshiba is such a popular brand that I'm willing to take the chance--although I wonder if I could contact Logitech and ask them...

Jo-Anne

You could email them http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/logitech_en_amr.cfg/php/enduser/ask.php?
or try calling one of these numbers http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/support_downloads/support_contactus/&cl=us,en#supportNumbers
but it would probably be quicker and easier to just "buy it and try it."

Thank you, SC Tom! I decided to call (the "email" form you have to fill out has required fields that include part number and serial number, which of course I don't have). I got someone in sales who said much the same thing you did. That mouse should work with all bluetooth computers. If it doesn't, I can call tech support to troubleshoot--or send it back. My hope was to avoid sending it back. I suspect though that it will work...

Thank you again,

Jo-Anne

Well, all this research and talk convinced me to try a Bluetooth, mostly for the size of the dongle that I'm tired of with my regular notebook wireless. I bought the V470, and I like it! It's a smaller size than my desktop's MS Natural Wireless Laser Mouse 6000, but not so small that it's uncomfortable to use. It's about the same size as the old Logitech Notebook mouse that I'm replacing.
The movement on it is smooth and precise, and the buttons and wheel are easily configured.
The only negative side is that I'm using it on a Win7 notebook, but the driver from Logitech's page for that mouse is SetPoint 4.7 for Vista. The FAQ on their page says to use 4.8, but it wasn't listed under the V470. So I checked the downloads for the MX Revolution mouse, and 4.8 was available for it. I downloaded and installed it, and it recognized my V470 immediately after install.
So far, I'm happy with it.
