Depending on the make / model of the keyboard, it could be a
"programmed" change to the keys. However, you have not mentioned if
the keyboard was a model that could be "enhanced" so there for the
general tips ae to be attemped:

-- Clean out the keyboard by turning it upside down so as to shake out
the dust and crumbs. Use "canned" air to help.
-- Test keybaord on a different PC.
-- Test in "Safe Mode."

Well, it seems I have pinpointed the cause of this issue.
I did NOT apply 'percussive mainenance', which of course would be the very
last option.
Nor have I cleaned the keyboard yet.
It seems the problem occurred only at certain moments and at other times the
number pad worked fine.
I have Matrox VideoTools for controlling my TV card.
In VT I had applied certain keybord shortcuts, amongst which ctrl+ for
increasing volume and ctrl- for decreasing volume.
I noticed the problem occurred only when using the Matrox program.
Removing these shortcuts key settings seems to fix the problem.

So, happy I haven't bought a new keyboard yet :-)

BTW, since updating to the latest Creative sound drivers, these volume
controls (and shortcut keys) never worked properly anymore, but that's an
issue for another thread...

But of course, I someone knows more about this I can aleays use an answer
for that!
