Recently purchased Eaton Nova AVR 1250 ups to replace an old faulty
unit
(different make, but also USB)
USB connected direct to mobo, the ups load level is only 16%
Unit constantly loses its connection, usually it re-enables after a few
secs
but occassionaly the only way to reconnect is by rebooting PC (re
setting
usb to same or other port has no impact)
If it loses connection then obviously I dont have proper ups
protection,
ie
no shutdown sequence
Acording to Eaton tech 'there is an inherent problem with winxp & win2k
and
USB connection' and I should 'try' a usb pci card, and they wont except
an
RMA. This sounds a bit of *** & bull to me
Keybd/wireless mouse, scanner and printer are the only usb devices
connected, mobo has 6 usb connectors No event err's

Are all the USB ports off the same Root Hub? The description seems to
indicate that the Root Hub may not be able to handle all the USB
traffic correctly.

Root Hubs are the primary port off the main board (aka motherboard) of
the PC.  These are usually "paired" in twos and if the other Root Hub
"port" is busy, then you will have problems.

Also, was the "new" hub "self-powered?"

Several USB devices are not supported unless directly connected onto a
main Root Hub port. Have you tried a direct USB port from this PC?
