Help please,
My OS is XP Pro SP2 my board is ECS 62-0206-001131-00101111-040201
SIS735 K7S5A. I have been running on Sdram 512 133 MHz but are changing
to DDR 184 pin 266MHz. I removed SDRAM from board and inserted the new
DDR 2 sticks of 512mb this would give me the board max fitted of 1GB.
When I booted back up it appeared not to recognize them it was searching
as my both CD & DVD lights kept coming on. I thought that system would
pick them up as if I had changed the old SDRAM. Have I got to go into
the bios to cause it to recognize these two new DDR slots which are
alongside my SDRAM slots. All help would be gratefully received.

I don't see anything on the motherboard to enable one type of
memory over the other. Try the new memory one stick at a time and
see if it is detected that way. Also test that the old memory
still works.
One kind of memory runs at 2.5V and the other at 3.3V. There
is probably onboard regulation of the voltage, and it switches
to one of those values, based on detecting RAM in the slot.
If there is a problem with the new RAM, such as a short circuit
on the power rail, that could damage something. Which is why
I recommend testing that a single stick of the old RAM works,
before going back and testing the new RAM again.
It wouldn't make sense to trigger that from a BIOS setting,
since the BIOS screen will not appear unless working RAM
is present.

Thank you to all, and must apologize for my typing. They are not DDR2, they
are DDR 266MHz I meant I had two 512 modules They are Samsung brought from
Novatech England. On the module on one label it says RAM-21/51s. they are
correct spec
I did replace my old SDRAM (2) 256 sticks, and all was as normal when
switching main power back on.
But when I tried DDR my screen would not boot from stanby and disc drives
kept searching for a disc ! I have the manual already from sometime back.
This did not mention any special procedure, but appeared to show
instructions when first building unit.
I will also try the site mentioned to check my current memory which appears
to work fine. PLEASE keep your good advice coming which should help me out
of this problems
Regards Roger
