Re: Maxtor disk is in device manager but not my computer

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

I have just had a thought.
Could I reformat the drive so that it is readable and then use file recovery
software to recover the files from the reformatted drive?

I will ask this in another thread too

I have tried it on another PC. Still no joy.

Try it on a another PC, if its not visible there, then it would seem to
have failed

Hi,
I have a backup USB Maxtor HD. it has lots of backed up stuff on it but
has just disappeared from 'my computer'. It can still be seen in device
manager and also in Disk Management except in there it is labelled as
Unallocated and Not Initialized. I don't want to have to reformat it
before I have recovered all the data. Is there an easy way of getting it
working again on my XP Pro machine?
Cheers
Lenny
