I did check the event log and I found under the system events an error
message at the time stamp I ejected a disk and tried to access my explorer (I
did notice that some of my applications would load and seem to work but the
majority of program would not load) The error message within system and under
"source" was "parvdm." Might that be my problem? And if so, what can I do?
Thanks for your help.

Check the Event logs to see if there any entries with a date and time stamp
that matches to when the problem occurs and if it mentions anything about an
error.

I used Win control panel device mgr to uninstall both my cd & dvd drives
and
then rebooted and had Win do a new install. My keyboard & mouse now work
after an eject but several of the software programs such as the win
explorer
will not load until I do a reboot. I'm still at a lost. Any other
thoughts?
Thanks

If you have ever used Windows Update to install updated hardware
drivers
then this could be the cause.
Even if this is not the cause it would not hurt to download and install
the
latest drivers for PC's motherboard from the manufacture's web site.

Also uninstall and reinstall the drivers for your CD and DVD drives.

I have a dell dimension 4550 with Win XP SP2 that recently developed
this
problem. After playing or writing to a disk in either of my dvd or cd
drives
then ejecting the disk, my keyboard & mouse with not function. It
appears
that the system locks-up. The only way I can get the system to work
again
is
to disconnect the power cable and then restore power and boot up.
After I
reboot, everything works fine until I use one of the drives again.
And
then I
have the same problem. I don't know where to start troubleshooting
this
problem -- thanks for any help
