Hi everyone,
A coworkers computer quit out of the blue yesterday, no display, no system
beeps, only spinning fans and hard drives. We are going to get the
hardware replaced, however wanted to ensure that we had all files saved. I
put the hard drive in another computer to transfer the files and his user
folder came up saying access denied. I created a new user account with his
name on my computer and still access denied. The main user folder was able
to have its security settings edited to allow entrance into the main
folder, but all below say that I don't have permission to change security
settings. What would be the next step into getting into those folders? We
need his pst file for outlook with all his contacts and e-mails. His files
were set to private as others were using the computer as well and we
didn't want others getting into information that they don't need. Any
advice is appreciated! -kenkcj
Either take ownership or use a Linux live CD like Knoppix to copy the
necessary files since Linux doesn't honor XP permissions.
