To put a low profile card in a regular PC, a different
bracket would be needed. The bracket or faceplate, must
have holes for the I/O connectors, if present. That
is one issue, with moving a low profile card to a
regular PC. Not all low profile cards, come with two
brackets in the box.

As an example, this PCI video card, is a low profile card.
The PCB material sizing is low profile. The bracket shown
in the picture, is a tall one, a regular PCI bracket.

But that video card also includes a low profile bracket, which
the user can fit to the card. You remove the tall bracket,
and install the low profile bracket, to use the card in a low profile
PC.

Not all low profile PCI cards, will come with two brackets. In
fact, some cards which are low profile, but have the tall
bracket attached, are classified incorrectly as being low
profile. A low profile card is only low profile, if it
actually comes with a low profile bracket. You must shop
carefully, when buying such things.

On a side note, its an absolute pain trying to find pci/agp cards
(graphics mainly!) that fit low profile machines!
