I have tried that too. After a session was establisher, which took a long time, a few simple questions took over 20 minutes to answer and finally I just disconnected, because he never came back. I think, he either consulted a thick lexicon or always had to go "upstairs" to another tech level to get an answer.

YES to both. HP wants a lot of money when you talk to them after 90 days. I have tried HOLDING or TAPPING the F1 key many times. You get to some things, such as Hard disks, Startup etc etc but NOT BIOS. Nowhere not in Advanced either.

I want to get to the BIOS on my HP Pavillion Desktop a1610n with Athlon

64X2 4200+, socket AM2, chipset GEForce 6150LE with ASUS MB name:A8M2N-LA,
HP Motherboard name: NodusM3-GL8E.

Hitting F1 during startup gets me to a number of things, but not the CMOS /
BIOS.Same with F2 or DEL or ESC.

I am running WindowsXP, SP2 installed. All drivers are up to date.

Any ideas ?

F1 works on my HP Pavilion desktop. I assume you tap the key several times as you begin booting, not just once.

Have you tried contacting HP?

And pay no attention to Paul...

Try http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/contact/chat_1.html for an online chat session with an hp technician.

Give chat another shot, perhaps early Monday. The quality of the techs varies all over the lot. You may get a better answer the second time around. Although I suspect F1 will be their answer, which, of course, you have already tried.

A Google search on "HP Pavilion Bios F1" brought up some forum messages suggesting that you try F11 to get into "advanced Bios." I'm hesitant to try that on my Pavilion (since F1 works for me), but perhaps it's worth a try.
