Re: XP won't recognise Canon PowerShot A570 IS digital camera

Are you connecting it to a rear or front USB port?

Can you use a card reader?

I just got a Canon PowerShot A570 IS digital camera. According to Canon's
instructions it's a USB PTP device, so the drivers are already present in XP.

However when I plug it in it doesn't appear in Scanners and Cameras.

It does show up in Device Manager, as a Digital Still Camera under Unknown.
It seems to have loaded the correct drivers (usbscan.sys, ptpusb.dll,
ptpusd.dll) but WIA doesn't seem to be recognising it.

The WIA service is running and there's nothing interesting in the event log.

I'm running XP Pro SP2 with automatic updating turned on. I have previously
installed a webcam, that worked fine with WIA.

The camera is recognised on another XP system in the house, so I'm guessing
that some previous install or uninstall has messed up my WIA configuration.
How can I restore it?
