Hello:
By reset I meant setting my computer to how it was when I bought it. I have an HP Pavilion laptop. It includes a System Recovery option. It installs Windows XP again and I need to install that was not included when I bought the computer. It deleted all the files and programs I had. I created back ups of the most important files and I am afraid they could have been infected with the Trojan Horse virus that caused me to reinstall Windows in the first place.
I run AVG (free version) antispyware and antivirus endlessly to find it. I am afraid that the reason why I can't open the drive C or any other drive (USB's & flash memories) is a virus that caused it to act that way. AVG shows there's still a trojan virus but though it seems to go away it keeps coming back.
I have tried to be clear, please let me know if I haven't succeeded.
Thanks a lot.
If I understood the explanation clearly, then whatever virus or malware
is present in the files that were originally backed up. This is certainly
possible. However, a System Recovery would re-configure the computer and
Windows XP back to its original, factory state.
At this point, do clean installs for all of the applications, including AVG
Free and also an anti-Adware application such as Lavasoft Adware from their
original (or pristine) sources or downloads. Before putting back the most
important files back into the computer, use AVG Free and the anti-adware
application to scan the folders that are holding the files that were backed
up. Delete all malware before copying the contents of these folders into
the computer.
