Today, I stopped hearing any sounds in windows.
This happens both on my Creative X-Fi sound card and with onboard AC97 sound card. Windows detects both cards properly, it's just that I can't hear any sound after I install the drivers (speakers are turned on, and sounds aren't muted in windows). In addition, Windows won't even boot after I install Creative sound card drivers (they boot normally if I unplug the card and use onboard audio instead).
I don't think that this is a speaker problem since it also happens with my old speakers and with my headset. Is it possible that I don't hear any sound because something on my motherboard has failed? I think I might have accidentaly fried something on it just before this started appearing. I repeat - this happens both with onboard sound and PCI sound card (I haven't tried plugging it in another PCI slot, nor know if this would matter in my case). I'm need of help so I can know what part of my computer I will have to replace. Except for sound, my system still works fine.
-Thanks.
So you have onboard audio that requires its drivers to work and you also have a Creative daughtercard that requires its own drivers to work. You have a conflict in similar hardware both attempting to perform the same function. Did you disable the onboard audio in the BIOS so you can actually use the Creative daughtercard?
