Re: Controllercard doesn't show harddrive in Windows XP/Vista

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Well, got the Ultra133 last evening. Installed it in same PCI slot as the
prior SiI 0680A, and the driver for XP. Attached the hard drive and DVD
burner. DriveImage sees the hard drive, and I created an image of XP
partition to it. The DI verification process said the image file was valid
after the check.

The SiI 0680A is junk.

You would probably need to update your Image app
Acronis has a fully functioning trial - it works fine on my sys with a
raid
card

Hey!

First of all I should say that I don't really know under which subforum
to put this, maybe Vista, maybe something more software related? If I'm
wrong I appologize! Anyway, here goes:

I recently formatted my C: drive to install Windows Vista. I also
happen to have a controllercard (SiI 0680A) with a harddrive attached
(ofcourse). When in Vista, I couldn't see the harddrive, the drivers
and everything was installed properly and I tried reinstalling them.

So I thought "to hell with Vista! For now." and reinstalled Windows XP.
But to my horrific surprise, I can't see the harddrive here now,
either!
The controllercards drivers is once again properly installed (and
reinstalled), and at the computer bootup the computer finds both the
controllercard and the harddrive. So my guess is that it's in Windows
the problem lies.

The harddrive does not show up on the computermanagement panel, or
whatever it's called in the english version of XP. The one that you get
when you right click on my computer -> manage (I guess) ->
disc..management? If you know about it I'm sure you'll know what I
mean!

I'm really at a loss to what to do now, because my troubleshooting
skills isn't very good. I've googled and searched on the manufacturers
website, but to no success at all!

It might also be worth mentioning, that the harddrive does not show up
in my BIOS. But during the computer bootup, when it gets to the
controller cards "page" (or what you call it), the harddrive can be
seen there.

So if anyone could help me here, and maybe also on how to get it
working under Windows Vista, I'd very much appreciate it!

I have the identical ide controller card in my PC. It does work in XP.
I
do have the driver installed from the floppy that comes with it. The
attached hard drive is visible with disk management (WD 200GB). What I
DON'T LIKE is that the drive is not visible from XP after reboot. Only a
cold boot works. A cold boot can only occur if the PC is turned
completely
off. This is also demonstrated with the ide controller card's bios
visible
during boot time. Attached DVD burner has same problem.

My imaging software, DriveImage 7.0, does not "see" the attached hard
drive.
So, can't use it to restore from image files store on this drive from XP
in
driveimage. Since I have had good workings with Promise Ultra66 and
Ultra100 in the past, got an Ultra 133 coming via UPS.

What does the ide controller card's bios indicate during boot time? Does
it
detect the hard drive? Does it detect anything?
