I wrote to Palm and they just gave me instructions I have tried
before, but a couple of things I couldn't complete, so I tried again,
but a couple of things are still remaining as a road block. Part of
the information the gave me is also located on Microsoft support at:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;888019
Palm also told me to do this:
===================
Try to manually install the Palm Desktop software rather than using
the Autorun.exe feature on the CD-ROM. First run "instmiw.exe" located
in the Palm Desktop folder on the CD (D:\Palm Desktop\instmiw.exe).
You should receive an error message on the computer that the
"Specified service already exists." Click OK and then run Setup.exe
from the D:\Palm Desktop\Setup.exe.
==============
The problem with the above is that the disk does not have instmiw.exe
but it does have instmsiw.exe so I try to click on that and it tells
me:
Wrong OS or OS version for application.
So that part doesn't work.
Then they tell me to:
It is possible that the software copy on the CD-ROM is bad or
corrupted. Copy all the CD contents for the Palm Desktop software over
to the hard drive and then run the Autorun.exe application from the
hard drive. If that does not work, try running the Setup.exe
application from the hard drive.
============
I tried the above but still get the blue screen.
On the Microsoft support one of my road blocks is where it tells me:
Reinstall the InstallScript engine
To reinstall the InstallScript engine from InstallShield Developer,
follow these steps:
1. Click Start, click All Programs, point to Accessories, and then
click Windows Explorer.
2. Open the following folder: C:\Program Files\InstallShield\Developer
\Redist\Language Independent\i386.
3. Double-click Isscrpt.msi.
4. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen.
===========
My problem with the above is when I look for the directory, what I am
seeing is:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield information with 9 folders
that look like this:
{FF3999BE-1A7B-4738-88AA-97BF14094A4A};
so I never get to see the Isscrpt.msi file. If I do a search for it,
it doesn't show up.
In this part:
Stop other instances of Windows Installer
To stop other instances of Windows Installer, follow these steps:
1. Right-click the taskbar, and then click Task Manager.
2. Click the Processes tab.
3. Click Msiexec.exe in the Processes list, and then click End
Process.
4. Click Yes.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each instance of Msiexec.exe.
6. Close Task Manager.
============
There are no instances of Msiexec.exe running.
These are some of the things I have tried so far.

I tried all, but it still blue screens. I ran the memtest plus for 8
hours. Thanks anyhow, Nothing else on that machine giving me any
problems so I am still not willing to go to system restore. I have a
Vista that it is working on, and an older Win2000 it works on down the
basement. It is just so baffling.

You can disable all non MS services and disable all in Startup Tab you will
need to reboot, you should get an Msconfig message advising you of config
changes.
Recheck msconfig and again that sevices are disabled. Then attempt an
install.
If it still BSOD's then visitwww.memtest.organdrun an extensive memory
test

I tried it but it still blue screens, should I have disabled all in
the startup tab as well? Plus I restarted, is that necessary?
Also, here is the message I get when I get the blue screen the stop
part would be the same, but the other number parts are probably
different on each crash.
I just hate to go ahead and try something without an opinion, I don't
know how many crashes it ca take.

Isn't it enough to just disable it? You say remove it? What about
when it is in safe mode, doesn't that disable it? I am using AVG
free.

do you have anti virus running? If so, remove it for the install.

replace the hard drive. I have posted in so many forums, but no
Iis able to find a solution to my problem. I get blue screens when
try to install from the Palm disk or from the downloaded file from
Palm's page. If I try to install it in Safe Mode I get this:

theThe Palm software is the only installation I have not been able to
complete on this machine. We have checked the connection, checked
whatmemory with the mem tests. I have been on the Palm page and tried
many things that they suggested there. I am at a total loss on
get anto try next. I know I would have to give details for anyone to

say itI can just ask if someone can tell me what they think and I can
if is something I tried or not.
