Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Hi elsa,

http://www.via.com.tw/en/products/peripherals/serial-ata_raid/

Might look over the above link, may be a support forum here that can address
the issue, your having..

Not sure if it is a good idea to have the CD drive on a raid controller, my
guess would be to connect it too the secondary IDE controller as a (M)
master or (S) slave, with the jumpers set accordingly..
However, if the IDE data cable has a device that is set to (CS) cable select
the CD-ROM drive should be set to (CS) as well..

Without knowing your systems specs and or who setup the raid controller in
the 6 month gap since the CD drive worked, might indicate perhaps a
connection was made to the raid (if actually a new card or onboard..?) card
in error, with the CD drive and a HDD on the same cable, that was originally
connected to one or the other IDE channels..?
So, you might just need to remove the CD drive from the data cable and
reconnect it to a free connector on an IDE cable coming off the mobo, if one
exists.. There also could be an indication in the BIOS or separate BIOS for
the raid controller too, though I am not sure if a CD-ROM is raid worthy to
begin with, this may be the problem..

With the Everest Home app, start it and click the (+) next to "computer",
*summery* and right click it, to do a quick report to text, cut & paste as I
have done, below..

Motherboard:
CPU Type Intel Pentium 4,
2400 MHz (18 x 133)
Motherboard Name Intel Silver Reef
D845PESV (6 PCI, 1 AGP, 2 DIMM, Audio)
Motherboard Chipset Intel Brookdale
i845PE
System Memory 1024 MB (PC2700 DDR
SDRAM)
BIOS Type AMI (04/25/03)
Communication Port Communications Port
(COM1)
Communication Port ECP Printer Port
(LPT1)

Storage:
IDE Controller Intel(R) 82801DB
Ultra ATA Storage Controller - 24CB
Floppy Drive Floppy disk drive
Disk Drive Maxtor 6Y200P0 (200
GB, 7200 RPM, Ultra-ATA/133)
Disk Drive Maxtor 6B250R0 (250
GB, 7200 RPM, Ultra-ATA/133)
Optical Drive GENERIC DVD DUAL
4XMax
Optical Drive Memorex 16X-DDL-IN
SMART Hard Disks Status OK

Do a quick report for (+) *Storage*, cut & paste the pertinent info for your
IDE channels, as well the raid controller info.. See below..

[ Primary IDE Channel ]

Device Properties:
Driver Description Primary IDE Channel
Driver Date 7/1/2001

Driver Provider Microsoft
INF File mshdc.inf

Device Resources:
IRQ 14
Port 01F0-01F7
Port 03F6-03F6

[ Secondary IDE Channel ]

Device Properties:
Driver Description Secondary IDE
Channel
Driver Date 7/1/2001
Driver Version 5.1.2600.2180

Hope this can help..

Hi elsa,

Look this over and see if it can help or applies to your situation..

The above link may provide some relative info..

To boot from a SCSI CD-ROM drive, set the SCSI controller so that BIOS
support for bootable CD-ROM is enabled.

You must also select ``boot from SCSI'' in the system BIOS.

Once the SCSI BIOS and the system BIOS are set, put the bootable CD-ROM
in
the CD-ROM drive and boot the system.

Maybe this information is important:

I have found that when I disable VIA VT6410 RAID Controller in Device
Manager the CdRom entries disappear. So if CD-ROM drives are on RAID how
do I
boot from them?
