Re: Standard Monitor format to LCD Wide Monitor Format

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Thanks so much Ron...That truly helped....In fact I just made a phone to call
to the monitor dealer and they wil replace the unit with a 19" LCD with
Standard Aspect as you suggested....they likewise confirmed your thoughts as
they suggested to give me an LCD that has a 1024 x 768 Resolution to my match
my lap tops output. Many thanks again Ron...your the man!!

Need urgent help anyone! I recently purchased a 19" Wide LCD Monitor and
hooked it up to my lap top that has a conventional square monitor. I was
hoping with the bigger LCD monitor attached I can view images clearer and in
more detail. However, the images on my lap top monitor seem to be stretched
on the 19" wide monitor and are not quite the same. Techy's have tried to
adjust the resolutions but still the images are stretched to fit the wide LCD
monitor. Im in the design business and having an accurate image on my screen
is very essential. 3D Images I generate on my lap top are not the same as
they come out in the 19" wide LCD monitor. If someone can give me advise on
how to fix this problem I, together with others Im sure, would truly
appreciate it.

It may not be possible to do this with your laptop

The first thing you need to do is to see if your laptop has the
ability to configure the external monitor port to different resolution
settings than it uses for the built-in display. You would need to
check the documentation that came with your computer or with the
manufacturer's technical support dept.

The problem is that your laptop monitor uses a standard video aspect
ratio which is 4:3 (640 x 480, 800 x 600, 1024 x 786 are examples of
4:3 aspect ratio resolutions) and your 19 inch wide LCD monitor needs
to have a wide aspect ratio video (16:10) such as 1280 x 800 or 1440 x
900.

If you can set the resolution differently then you need to ensure that
the external monitor port can be configured to an appropriate
resolution for your LCD monitor. Typically the 19 inch wide LCDs
have a design resolution of 1440 x 900 and that is what you would want
to use with this monitor if you want the best quality output for your
graphics work.

I suspect that your "solution" is quite likely going to have to be to
return the monitor and exchange it for a standard aspect 19" LCD which
be compatible with the video output capabilities of your laptop.

Good luck
