It will be 2 partitions..
I'm assuming your optical drives are D: & E:, right..?

If you want to combine the C: & F: partitions you
will need a third party app like Symantec's Partition Magic to do so, XP can't
accomplish this on it's own..

When installing your new or if reinstaling existing programs, you would just
need to be sure to install them to say, for example F:\program files or your
choice..

Just remember, you'll need to do so, selecting custom or advanced when
installing your programs..

you should be given an option to create a logical (blue) partition..
See fig. 6 in the last link provided.. Change it to show blue at the top..
Is there a drive letter showing..?

If not, right click the partition and select "change drive letter and paths"
, add, use the
default letter recommended, click ok..?

space, then
use all the space or increments to create a large or divided logical
partition(s)..
The link above may shed more light on ways of doing this, though just right
clicking
on the unallocated space in Disk Management should give you the option to
create your
desired partition..

Two things are necessary for Windows to see the full size of the drive:

1. Your computer must support large drives. Computers made in the last
4-5 years will do this. If your computer is older, you may need a BIOS
update. Only get BIOS updates from the motherboard mftr. or the OEM if
you have that sort of machine. Never flash the BIOS unless it is
absolutely necessary.

2. Assuming that your motherboard can handle large drives, you need to
install XP with at least Service Pack 1, preferably Service Pack 2 of
course.
